Hola! We got home a couple of days ago and I’m still recovering from all the running around we did. There’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed with your favorite sheets and pillows. My brain is very much like putty. All I can say is that we had a great time visiting family and friends. Ollie had a blast meeting everyone for the first time.
I almost thought I wouldn’t manage to squeeze in a haircut and a quick trip to the Fabric District. But we did! And Ollie did pretty well overall during the flight, thanks to all the suggestions on how to keep him distracted. He fussed more on the way back, due to missing a nap. But we all survived. I am already looking forward to returning to NYC and just playing tourist.
But anyway, here’s our week in pics!

Birthday party duds, shirt and tie (fabric also used here) made by mama
We have had a wonderful year with our little guy. I never imagined finding so much happiness in all the things he does, little and big. I’m really looking forward to his next milestone: walking! I think life will get more exciting and hectic once that starts. Call me crazy but I am looking forward to it. Trips to the park will be a bit more fun. I may eat my words later!
I’ll be back soon to share some detailed pics of Ollie’s shirt. Happy weekend!
Linking up with Rags to Stitches for coffee date.
I love the month progression baby photos! Huge difference from month 1 to 3. He is quite a dapper looking one year old. Also your cut looks great.

Wow! What an excellent group of pictures! I love every single one! But especially Ollie in his birthday outfit – what a gorgeous boy! Can’t wait to read the details of his shirt. And any details/shopping tips for the Garment District – I’m heading to NYC in May, hurray!
I like your new ‘do too – is it hard to get it straight?

I’ll write up a quick blurb on what I liked in the Garment District. We were there for only 2 hours, most of it spent in Mood.
One thing that I was completely taken aback by was all the smoking. With all the rises on cigarette tax, laws banning smoking in parks, bars, etc. I’d thought smoking was on a decline. No way. We stayed in a cigarette smoke haze from 42nd St. to 37th St. It even sneaked its way into some shops. Ugh. I was miserable. I don’t know how big the smoking culture is in Chicago, so maybe be prepared for that.

Oh man, I would find the smoking shocking too! Yuck! I think smoking has declined a lot here in most areas of the city, but when I go to Chinatown, for instance, there’s smoke everywhere. But ewww – you really don’t want smoke around the fabric you’re considering buying!

Right! Luckily a few shops are on second floors, away from the yuckiness.

Oh! My hair! I usually have to straighten it to cut it. Funny enough this hair stylist cut it curly then straightened. Doesn’t take too long, to me anyway. About 50 minutes between the hair dryer and straight iron. Sounds like a lot now that I think about it but it lasts for a few days. I’m about to curl it today actually.

The icing can sometimes be better than the cake so I can see the love with it.

Oh my gosh, he is so cute! Your hair looks amazing, too! I’m so sad to have missed you. I wasn’t expecting to have started a new job on Monday, so the week was so much busier than I had anticipated. 😦 I hope that we can meet up next time you’re in town! 🙂

Your gift for making beautiful things has obviously been handed down from your folks- you and your sister are beautiful (*love* the haircut). As for your were toddler I fell like channeling Chandler Bing and saying “could he *be* any cuter in his birthday outfit?!” That bowtie is just so cool. Quite the dapper toddler! Rachel ☺

Hi Melizza – I’ve just been catching up on all your posts and I have to say 1) your son is too adorable for words – like a little man full of character already! 2) I love, love, love the haircut – so sophisticated, yet fun! 3) can you please, please, please start a baking blog with your recipes and methods – those macarons had me salivating – basically everything you bake looks like perfect deliciousness!

I have been thinking about you. Dropping by your blog every day this week to see if you’ve updated. I’m very happy that you have and that your wait will be over.
And thank you, thank you, thank you! I’d love to blog about my baking but I learned having more than one blog proved too much. I do want to try and dedicate one day a week to post about my baking adventures. I will work on that!
